This basic drum machine is an extremely simple utility which has been created in order to allow drummers to try out simple drum tabs (tablature). To access the Drum Tab Tester, click on the image above or the link below. You can test your own simple tabs with this device, or visit a site such as MXtabs.net and try some tabs from their archives. If you're a Flash programmer and find that the Drum Tab Tester is too limited in scope for your requirements, you're welcome to submit modifications to us which we will publish here. If you would like to submit a mod, click here to fill in the mods form and we will send you the original Flash source file. You must keep any licenses, links and credits in place. I can't get it to load - why not? | FAQ | After filling in our simple form and clicking RUN TAB TESTER NOW! you will be taken to a new page and a small pop-up window will open containing the Drum Tab Tester. If you have broadband it should load almost instantly. If you have a 56k modem it will take between 15 and 30 seconds to load. If it doesn't load it is usually for one of the following reasons:

How does it work? | FAQ | Once loaded, the Drum Tab Tester will look exactly like the image shown above. There are 32 columns (32 possible beats) and 7 rows of ellipses (7 instruments). A single white ellipse represents one instrument strike. The instruments are shown on the left and time at the top. Click on one of the ellipses and it will change colour, showing that you have selected that instrument to play at that moment. Click it again to turn it off. Press START to start the Drum Tab Tester playing. The number shown in the middle of the red squares will cycle from 0 to 32 and loop until you press STOP or RESET. What kit did you use to sample the sounds? | FAQ | The drum sounds used in the Drum Tab Tester were recorded using the Roland V-Club Electronic Drum Set. The tom was from the ROSEWOOD drum set and the rest of the instruments were from the ROCKIT kit. How do I load and save tabs? | FAQ | At the moment you cannot load or save your own tabs. This version of the Drum Tab Tester is simplicity itself. We just wanted to create something that would give us instant results when browsing drum tabs, which is what we have achieved. However, if you would like to take it a stage further, click here to fill in the mods form and we will send you the original Flash source file which you can modify and resubmit. What is a tab? | FAQ | The word "tab" is short for "tablature" which is a method of notation for musical instruments. Usually applied to stringed instruments, it indicates a tone with notation referring to the finger and string used to create it. In the case of drum tablature, each symbol represents the striking of a drum or percussion instrument.
